Cordless Hand Held Vacuum Cleaners A Review Of 3 Light Models
The cordless hand held vacuum can be a useful tool in keeping a house clean.
With the rise of the cordless power tool, it was inevitable that the technology would be applied elsewhere.
Hand held vacuum cleaners are not yet ready for large cleaning jobs, as the average charge will only last for five minutes of operation.
However, they are excellent for quick cleanup of spills, hard to reach areas and cars or other small spots outside of the home.
Cordless Hand Held Vacuum Cleaners Popular Models and Common Features
The DirtTamer hand held vacuum series uses a three-stage separation system to combat the normal problem of filter clogs.
First, large particles are separated. Then, liquids are separated, which finally leaves the solid, small particles.
These are caught in the HEPA or foam filter. The machines are quiet, with a two-year warranty.
It is slightly heavier than the average cordless hand held vacuum on the market, and it isn’t really suitable to replace a conventional vacuum for home use, nor can it deal with large debris.
The filter should be cleaned often, and the dust receptacle is small and will need to be emptied often as well. Additionally, the low power light comes on at ten minutes and suction noticeably weakens.
Dirt Tamer Deluxe HEPA Cordless Hand Held Vacuum
This Dirt Tamer models is the first HEPA cordless hand vacuum. The model can operate for a full twelve minutes from a charge and is capable of picking up wet or dry spills.
The vacuum comes with a squeegee attachment to allow pick-up of wet spills, a thirteen-inch extension wand, crevice tool and an upholstery brush.
The machine comes with a wet-clean foam filter and a HEPA filter, which is expected to last a year of normal use.
This cordless hand held vacuum can capture 99.97% of allergy causing particles down to 0.3 microns in size, resulting in a very clean sweep, quite useful for those suffering from allergies who need to get small areas free from contamination before use.
It weighs five and a half pounds and the trash receptacle is capable of holding nine ounces. The motor can provide six volts worth of power, though a similar but more powerful version, the DirtTamer Ultima HEPA Wet Dry Cordless Vacuum Cleaner, has similar features except for a fourteen point four volt motor.
Black & Decker CHV1400 Cyclonic DustBuster Cordless Hand Vacuum
This Black & Decker model is another extremely powerful, fourteen point four volt cordless hand vac.
The trash receptacle has a fourteen ounce capacity, and a translucent cover so you can easily see how full it is and thus when to clean it out. There is a three-stage filtration system to keep the air exhaust properly clean.
Only three and a half pounds, this cordless hand held vacuum combines raw power and light weight and can manage up to fifteen minutes of suction on the lowest power setting. The DustBuster boasts fifty percent greater filter area and a wheel arrangement to remove dust from the filter without removing the filter from the machine.
There are comments that this is a nice idea but is only practical for small amounts of dust, and much of the time it is easier to remove and clean the filter normally. The cyclonic, three stage filter system on this cordless hand held vacuum is intended to reduce the amount of dust and debris in the filter in any event.
The DustBuster has internal stowage for its tools, so wherever the vacuum is, all of the needed tools are also present.
Black & Decker CHV7250 Wet/Dry DustBuster
The Black and Decker CHV7250 is a more conventional model, and is closer to the average on the market. This cordless hand held vacuum is less than three pounds and is designed for convenience.
The seven-volt motor is suitable for most jobs and the trash receptacle is easy to empty. The machine comes with a squeegee and a crevasse tool, and all of the tools are stored on the DustBuster so they are present wherever they are needed.
This model is intended for small touch-up tasks and only has a two-ounce capacity. This cordless hand held vacuum is not really suitable for serious jobs and the first time it is used after emptying the dust receptacle there is often a quick shot of dust into the exhaust, making it less useful for those with allergies.
This is a step up from the previous state of the art, but it is not competitive with corded vacuums for those tasks that can be conveniently done by a conventional vacuum cleaner.
