dc14 and dc17

I used my DC14 Dyson for years without any problems and it still works perfectly to this day. The DC17 on the other hand is garbage!

I have returned it 7 times in the past 3 months for the same issue. Hair gets clogged up on the drive gear for the brush bar.

It is a known problem with Dyson... They have tried adding an idler pully in the brush bar drive system with no help.

Now they are back to the original design and original problem. I would highly recommend anyone to stay away from this vacuum.

It is garbage! They have an obvious flaw in there design and refuse to recognize it!

5 Stars for the 14, 3 at best for the 17
by: Anonymous

I have both a 14 and a 17 and also prefer the older one. I have short-haired pets, and it appears that hair is stuck on the bar that you can see through the plastic on the bottom of the 17 (which also makes a very loud noise when it runs.) My 14 does a great job on cat hair but doesn't pull up my area rugs and has a loser hose that doesn't make me strain my back pulling on it to clean the stairs, furniture, etc. Except for it's light weight, the ball seems to have even more shortcomings. Dyson should leave well enough alone.

Dyson DC-14
by: Anonymous

The Dyson DC-14 vacuum has a lot of suction and it is very light and quiet. It also doesn't have a problem with dust coming through back into the place you just cleaned. However my wife and I both agree that although telescopic attachment is well thought out space saving design on paper, in practice it doesn't work very well.

Because the vacuum has a lot of suction it wants to collapse the hose and it causes the vacuum to topple over while you are using it. It is hard to use the vacuum overhead like to clean off a shelf or above a refrigerator. We will probably buy a canister type vacuum to do what this one vacuum won't easily do.

Notice Dyson is now making those also. I also like the ease of cleaning out the cup. I dump it into our outside dumpster and use my air compressor to blow it out it looks like new when I put it back into the machine.

I suggest if you want to buy any type of vacuum to do it where you can demo one first.

DC17

Sounds like a lot of us have the same problem with the hair getting wrapped around the gear. Yet Dyson claims this can't happen. Even after I sent them pictures. Should be something consumers could do??

DC17 Animal is not for animals
by: Anonymous

Our DC17 Animal will be going back to the shop tomorrow, for the second time in 6 months. Long pet hair clogs up in the drive belt and rips a metal drive belt roller out of the plastic housing. A very poor design flaw for a vacuum that is advertised to pick up pet hair. Wish I could get my money back....
