DC17 ANIMAL VACUUM

by marvin

A bad mistake - don't buy!!

Purchased the DC17 animal vacuum and the first time we vacuumed we thought WOW, this vacuum is pulling dirt and hair out of the carpet that our old vacuum missed. Filled the canister up 3 times the first time we vacuumed.

The next time we vacuumed, filled the canister up 3 times. The 10th time we vacuumed, filled the canister up 3 times.

Upon close examination of the content of the canister, we discovered almost all of the content was carpet fiber. The DC17 was eating our carpet.

The brush on the DC17 is as stiff as a steel brush. Using the DC17 on our carpeting (which is a high quality carpeting) has nearly ruin all our carpeting in our home.

Contacted Dyson - they indicate they do not make a brush for the DC17 which is softer. Dyson's solution, turn off the beater bar. We tried turning off the beater bar on the vacuum and it leaves the carpet as if it has not been vacuumed.

The DC17 is expensive. From checking the internet after the fact, we discovered others have had the same problem with the DC17 eating/ruining their carpet.

Asked Dyson if they would exchange the our 3 month old DC17 for a refurbished lowed model which has softer brushes.

There response was no - use the DC17 with the beater bar turn off.

Our experience - we cannot recommend either the Dyson vacuum cleaners or Dyson's customer service. We wasted over $540 on a vacuum which we can not be used and has destroyed our carpet.

Dyson DC17 Animal - Hate it!
by: Julie Swenson

When new this vacuum pulled out the thread that held the carpeting together. It looked like we had the carpet professionally cleaned. After 1 year the suction started going and by the 2nd year we had replaced every moving part on the plastic monster.

It will not pick up tiny pieces of gravel... blows dust and pet hair out of the sides. For a expensive machine it is a piece of crap. Do not buy.......not worth it. Not worth 1/4 of the price.

ive been in the vac repair business for a few years now. i repair and restore them..the owner and the salesmen sell them...and dysons number one issue is the brushroll...turn it off and you get some suction..thats it....u need the agitation from the brushroll and that in turn will give u deep cleaning and a nice groomed carpet...dysons are all show and no go...a good riccar vibrance[white one]with the 10amp commercial motor..floating carpet head...softer brushroll..4 yr unconditional warr...or a panasonic ug-583 same features as above w 3yr warr....both will give you at least 10 years of sevice for under 300.oo bucks if u come w cash in hand cause cash is king and sales r slow...

About Dyson DC 17's Eating Carpet!
by: Anonymous

I have heard about this problem and I think that Dyson may find itself in a class action law suite over this problem! I sell the Air Storm HEPA vacuum cleaners and its great with dog fur! I have two very large tibetan Mastiffs that blow their huge bottom coat every spring which is right now and my own Air Storm does a great job of cleaning the fur without any problems at all! In fact the Air Storm is designed to compress the dust and fur into it's collector bag without ever a loss of suction!
