DC-17 Animal

Hate, Hate, Hate it! Biggest Waste of Money I have ever spent!

There is no way to get the cyclone canisters unclogged, the "on" button failed... I have to hold the "ON" button down the entire time I am vacuuming.

The suction is horrible! I clean the filter and let it dry for 24 hrs every week just to get it to work better.

I have hardwood floors and 2 area rugs and I think this vacuum should be able to handle my house with ease, but after 1yr I am selling it and buying a high end vacuum minus the dyson label.

I fell for the advertising and that's all the dyson is... an advertising campaign!

What a bunch of morons
by: Anonymous

I've had my Dyson Animal for over two years and I am totally satisfied. I've had rugs to get sucked up in the brush bar numerous times and it is still running great. I use it to clean the insides of three vehicles, which does a fantastic job by the way. Sounds like you guys might need to stick with a broom and dust pan, which still might be alittle to advanced for you. I hope this bit of information has helped you.

Thanks

Dyson purple and grey animal ball
by: Roger

This is the most frustrating vacuum I've ever owned. The fluff marketing is so far out in front of the reality of how dismal Dyson support is, it's shameless. Bought a Factory Refurbished model and within two months the beater bar stopped working.

Upon inspection, wires were visibly hanging out of the side of the ball. Took it to local warranty repair shop, who repaired the wiring problem. Three weeks later the beater bar stopped working again. This time no wires seen. Took it back to the local shop.

They reported extreme difficulty getting parts support from Dyson and had terminated their contract as a warranty repair center. Said they had other Dysons that had been there six months waiting for parts. But, they would repair the vacuum anyway, no charge (the 90 refurb warranty had lapsed).

Six weeks later the shop called to say that Dyson was now refusing to even sell them repair parts. They told me what part to get and suggested I call Dyson to order it directly.

Dyson refused to sell me the part directly and instead routed me to the new authorized repair shop. I called them and ordered the part. After two months and several follow-up calls, the part is still not in, but a week ago the first shop called to say they had located a beater bar motor and installed it. I offered to pay for the motor but they declined.

For those who love your Dyson, pray it never breaks. There is no company behind the ads to support it.

DC17 Animal
by: Sharon

I have never been so disappointed in a vacuum cleaner. $500 is a lot of money. The Dyson DC17 Animal clogs every time I use it. Each time I use it I have to poke something in the holes to unclog them and then take out the filter and clean it. Then I may be able to get the entire house cleaned without having to do it again. This is advertised as an anti-clog machine!

I contacted Dyson and was told that the warranty does not cover clogs. Also, there are no dealers locally who work on them. There are only two of us in house and we do not have any pets. We are not messy people and should not have this much trouble.

Also, I was to receive a $100 Kohls card with the purchase of the vacuum. I did not receive it. Kohls said it was Dysons responsibility to send it to me when I registered the machine, which I did.

I definitely would not recommend this to anyone.

DC-17 Animal (Piece of JUNK)
by: Anonymous

WAY OVER PRICED!!!!! Agree with every negative comment here!!! We could have bought at least 4 other vacuums that would do just as well for this price!!! We can't even vacuum our floors with clean filters installed without loosing suction.

Would be 5 stars except for today......
by: Anonymous

My DC17 Animal has been great for the past year. Yes, I had to clean it out a few times, but it's much better than any other vac I've owned.
Until today......

I had my daughter vac the living room, then my son dumped it out and started in my office. I realized the beater bar was working but that was it. I couldn't get the thing to work properly and it smelled a little hot. So I decided to let it sit and give Dyson a call in the morning.

I changed my mind when I needed to move the vac out of my way and realized it had melted my carpet. It was off and unplugged while it was sitting there.

I called Dyson at 7 p.m. CST and got a friendly rep. The liability claims department is scheduled to call me back in the morning to discuss compensation for the damaged carpet. They will also decide what to do with my vac.

I'll update after I talk to someone tomorrow.

Worked great for me
by: Anonymous

I'm shocked by the amount of negative reviews about this vaccum. Mine works fabulous....I have a 1600 sq ft house fully carpeted complete with two young children and a dog and a cat and the vaccum easily keeps up. I rarely have to clean the filter, and the canisters never clog up.

It works
by: Anonymous

Thank you, your technique totally worked! This vacuum has been such a pain-- shouldn't I vacuum when _I'm_ in the mood, not when the vacuum is?

But I was able to get blockages out with the tiny flashlight (pen-light type)and coat hanger and plyers (also employed chopsticks, tongs, and kabob skewers, and alot of banging).

I cleared it from the bottom (thru the 8 holes leading to the 8 little chamber thingies on top) and from the top (thru the opening in the side of the purple thing).

Thank you so much!

How to unclog the top of the canister
by: Anonymous

My husband found the secret to unclogging the canister of the Dyson DC 17 since there is absolutely NO way to open the top of the purple area without breaking your expensive vaccum cleaner. He fashioned tools out of wire coat hangers and inserts a very small flashlight in through the bottom of the two black tubes. Then, he can see in the top of the canister and he alternately uses the wire hangers to poke into the areas to loosen and pull the hair/fuzz/etc. out and also shakes the canister to get it out. We found the vaccum would shut down due to overheating. Called Dyson and they said we had a blockage in the tubes. NOTHING there, but it was all inside the top of the canister. Once this was cleared, no problems. Dyson needs to make this area accessible to clean it; but then they would lose people buying all those new vacuums since blockages are NOT covered in the warranty. It takes patience and a lot of time to clear the top of the canister, but you will be amazed after you get it done!

Agree!
by: Anonymous

I completely agree with you. Granted, I have the Dyson DC07 animal vacuum cleaner, but same with you, there is no SUCKING!

The wheels scratch my hardwood floor, the suction doesn't work that well, and the Dyson customer service department is snooty on the phone.

I'm giving them one more shot on the phone later today, but if they don't have any good ideas, no way I'm paying for it to get fixed.
