Dirt Devil UD 42080

I bought the Dirt Devil UD 42080 (bagless) on the recommendation of a friend who has a smaller and similar model. I only have 3 area rugs in my home and bare wood floors.

The machine which is less than 5 months old and used under 10 times is headed straight for the trash. Inside of two uses I realized that the machine (though making plenty of noise) was not picking up and screwdriver in had, opened the machine. The belt was broken.

As it was only after 2 uses, I phoned the company and they sent me replacement belts. The machine worked for another 2 uses when I again realized it was doing little in the pick up department. I cleaned it out, opened the machine again and put it back together.

It then worked for another use or so, before not picking up at all. The indicator for bare floors/carpet height had gone slack. The machine is made completely of cheap plastic.

I phoned the company and though they had received my warranty info they told me I needed my receipt (which I am normally very careful about this, had misplaced) and could drive about 30 minutes or so from my home and maybe they would fix it.

Without the receipt (the machine ran me about $85.00 with coupons at a local housewares store) the machine is gone to me. Cheaper to replace it than fix what never worked to begin with.

Don't buy this machine (I suspect Dirt Devil in general) is not a good idea. $85.00 done the drain.
