Dyson DC-07 Animal

by Jimmie(woof!) & Maureen
(Putney, VT)

I've recently read three comments from three different people concerning questions / comments / concerns regarding three different vacuums... also regarding three different problems.

I felt the need to take the time to respond to these people because I feel I have a pretty good solution to all of their vacuum concerns and frustrations... It's called Dyson.

At least for me it's been the Dyson DC-07 Animal Turbo RootCyclone Bagless, other appropriate adjectives the company uses to describe this amazing machine.

For Axenolith in CA, concerning your Bissel Cleanview II; you got me curious concerning plastic parts on the brushbar.

So I checked my Dyson. I too have plastic parts, but I haven't even come close to having problems with it... no problems at all. And I've been putting my Dyson to some pretty extreme and frequent use now for four years.

Due to my lack of ownership of a shop vac, I think I am guilty of using, or maybe even abusing, my Dyson DC-07 Animal. If anything, I deserve to have my brushbar or any other part to have a meltdown!

Tons of dog fur, dirt, including small stones, sawdust, and unbelievably I even accidentally sucked up some overflowing septic... and my machine still works great!

For the septic mishap, I just washed out the hose and cleaned the first two filters. Due to the design, the "misguided" septic never made it to the final hepa filter so I never had to replace that... although that would have been an easy and inexpensive replacement.

I too previously owned a Hoover. It was a 1960 model, passed along from my Grandmother... one of those heavy metal globe shaped things. It got used for over 40 years... motor still worked great... just other pieces got old and tired...hard to find replacements.

And so far, my Dyson DC-07 Animal seems to be following in the footsteps of the old Hoover... only better!

For Theresa in Franklinton, NC, concerning your Rainbow-E Series... I considered buying a water based filtration system vacuum too.

I have a pretty bad mold and dust/dirt problem. I live next door to a farm and have marshland behind me. My doors and windows are always open here in the country so "Welcome mold spores, blowing dust/dirt, and even the refreshing scent of cow manure"!

I vacuum a lot to keep up with all of these "household invaders" and I'm so glad I got the Dyson. The triple filtration, including a hepa filter, handles all of the above... including lots of dog fur, bird feathers... and the best part... it's so easy!

There's a clear collection bin to catch everything, it's fun to see what you've "captured", and you just quickly detach the bin, pull a trigger, and all the junk is in your garbage... not all over your toilet or sink. And no bags to buy!

The machine is powerful... wait 'til you see all the hidden dirt it picks up... but at the same time, you're not fighting with it. It doesn't try to suck up your area rugs, your curtains, or your couch, as you might think a machine like this with such power might do! Never thought I'd ever think that vacuuming was fun... but with this invention... it really is!

And for Anonymous... no, my Dyson DC-07 Animal has never clogged. Two dogs, two cats, birds, and the above mentioned items I've used it on (maybe I won't have to buy a shop-vac)... and it's never clogged.

I'm a practical person and I hate to shop. Especially to waste time and money getting repairs, doing maintenance, and buying replacement parts on something you use often... something you just want to be reliable and hassle free.

For me... it's my Dyson. It actually does make vacuuming fun! Always a surprise and fun to see how much... and what the machine picks up!

Especially when you thought your floors/carpets were clean at least by looking at them! Never thought I'd hear myself say that... but it's true.

And oh, even my dog loves the Dyson! I just use the brush attachment and he'll stand still forever and let me vacuum him... I'm not kidding... he likes it better than being brushed/combed.

You should see the fur collect in the bin... and it gets dirt, grass, and hay off of him after he's had fun rolling around outside in all that stuff.

Hope my Dyson DC-07 Animal lasts as long as my Grandmother's old metal round Hoover. It works better, for sure. I'll write another comment in 40 years to let you know how it's working!

Dyson dc07
by: Stacy Smith

A friend gave me a dyson dc07 because she saw the problem i was having with other vacuums and since i have dogs that live in the house, she got me the DC07 Animal. i vacuum every day.

at first i was thrilled with the performance of the unit. and then it stopped picking debris up, so i called dyson and they told me that i needed to wash and allow to dry all the filters. i personally thought maybe the belt was bad, as had happened with others, in any case, i did as they advised; that was a year ago, and the performance from the base of the unit has never been right since.

now through the wand i still get the debris picked up, but i live in a 2100 square foot home and doing the whole thing with the wand is ridiculous. the hard to understand thing for me is that the unit will pick up some stuff,(dog hair) but not other (dirt) i know this because i can see the hair flying around the bin, but can also feel things it is throwing out when i am wearing sandals to vacuum.

DC07 sucks
by: Marion Pierce

My comment is this when the Dyson DC07 worked, it did a good job. Now it wants suck up anything i do keep it cleaned up. I called them all they want to do is tell me how to unclog it---it is not cloogged. It is a piece of trash no good for anything. I will tell anyone NOT to buy one, because they are no good.

Dyson dc07 junk
by: Anonymous

These vacuums are junk and I heartily advise against taking a chance with any of the newer models, unless you can inspect them closely. Mine is cheap plastic and has so many ill-fitting joints that you lose suction in at least 4 places. I have duct-taped as many as I can reach and that helps some.

The Dyson DC07 was a very expensive vacuum and I am not inclined to buy another. My solution has been to call a cleaning service to come in once a week and do a very thorough vacuuming (plus other stuff, naturally) and then my weak, but darned heavy vacuum can do touch up. What a maddening disappointment.

Problems with my Dyson
by: Bendy

I have long hair and the hair keeps getting caught on the brushes and I have to use scissors to cut it off. I have the Dyson DC 07, same as yours. It also decides to stop picking up things some times; you can see that the stuff in the collection bin doesn't move around and it's just not picking up the stuff. It's just moving the object around on the floor. And the plug gets hot! I don't know if I just noticed this or if it's been going on for a while. Anyone had any complaints?
