Euro Pro Shark Infinity NV29 (same as NV30, NV31)

by Isaac
(Addison, AL)

I bought the Euro Pro Shark Infinity NV29 vacuum cleaner at a local wal-mart and can't be more pleased with the results.

The suction is incredible and I could not believe the amount of dirt it picks up from carpets. Although (in my opinion) this is an excellent vacuum, there are some silly design flaws.

Many people complain about their infinity vacuum losing suction, but I think I have a solution for that problem.

One of the flaws (again in my opinion) is in the cyclones. The dirt that gets trapped in the cyclones isn't very easy to get out. Most people just pour water over the cyclones which makes things worse!

I used my infinity vacuum 3 times, once over at my friends house (which isn't very big) once on the area rug we have, and third on my car, none of them very dirty, except for my friends house.

I emptied the cyclones every time I vacuumed and then I "back washed" them. I couldn't believe the amount of dirt that came out of them!

Now to back wash them, take a garden hose, with some good water pressure behind it and run water up in the ROUND hole, this forces the dirt and junk to be flushed out the opposite way it came in, then it should restore the suction power.

Also the manufacturer exaggerates about the amount of cleaning and maintenance on the vacuum cleaner, but hey, a lot cheaper that a Dyson or other brands.

started fire!!!
by: Anonymous

I bought this vacuum 2 years ago. It worked good in the beginning, but has since then really went down hill. I have to use the handheld to vacuum a lot because the vacuum just doesn't seem to get the job done. Not to mention how heavy it is and how it tips over everytime I leave it free standing and not leaning against something. It is horrible to clean out. It gets so dirty and when you try to empty it, you end up having to put your whole arm up into it to pull out all the dirt. Then to top it off, today I was vacuuming and smelled something. When I looked over at the wall outlet it was plugged into, it was smoking. I very nervously pulled the cord out because I couldn't touch the plug since it was smoking and sparking. Now my whole wall outlet is completely black, the wires within it are now burned. The vacuum cord was actually melting to my wall socket. When I called customer service, they said their policy is to just not use it and wait for a call back in the next few days....really???

Worked great for 5 years, but recently had problems. Clogging issues that I worked out...but this last one is what will buy me a new vacuum! The roller brush won't move! I have been through 4 belts in 4 hours!

I bought this vacuume thinking it would be a good one. Piece of junk. Its heavy to pull , messy to empty and does not pick anything up.Canadian Tire site says its been discontinued. I wonder why ??? I tell anyone who will listen to run from this vacuume. It also tips easy when stored. Manufacters design flaws and the consumer get to pay for this companies mistakes.

Bad product - needs redesigned
by: Anonymous

My husband bought me the Infinity vacuum for Christmas 2009. By 4 months, the bristles were already completely worn down and the handle already broken. I can not find a replacement roller brush online. Also, this vacuum is VERY heavy. It is definitely not for people with any sort of back problems. It is sad that my little $30 stick vacuum is holding up better than a $200 vacuum. I definitely do not recommend this product to anyone.

not worth the purchase
by: Anonymous

This vacuum works great for a while but I've owned mine for about a year and a half and the handle has broken and now I can seem to find another one. The vacuum is not lightweight and it is hard to push. I do have to say the suction is still ok but not like it was when it was new despite changing the filter and keeping the cyclones emptied. Definitely not worth the purchase. Guess there is reason Wal-Mart stopped carrying this product.

I have had my Infinity NV29 since July 2009. My roller brush is completely gone - no bristles left. You can not find a replacement anywhere. Also can't find replacement belts.

This vacuum sucks and not in a good way
by: Anonymous

I never meant to give this produce a 5 star rating ! It worked fine a couple times then a lot of the issues that others have commented on started up - the red light and deciding not to run any more - the falling over (yeah it hurts and leaves nasty bruises and breaks things) - and cleaning ? !! I put it all back according to the manual: click and nothing. I don't have time in my life to rebuild a NASA rocket. I'll donate this expensive mistake to someone who does and go get a bagless Dirt Devil on sale. It's lighter, I can buy parts, it doesn't put me in the hospital and I can use it at least a year before spending another $50-$60 and it does the job.

This vacuum sucks and not in a good way
by: Anonymous

If I had known at the time it was a Shark I would have stuck to my lifetime habit of buying a cheap vacuum once a year - I feel I was 'taken' by Walmart and this company - but then again I fell for the price as it was displayed next to the Dysons. Hard and expensive lesson learned - pet hair is pet hair and and just requires a LOT of cleaning - ah for a back and strength to beat carpets outdoors like the old days.

Shark / Euro Pro Infinity NV30N
by: James

The Shark / Euro Pro Infinity NV30N vacuum cleaner has lasted longer than any I have ever owned. In many ways it is reminiscent of the Fantom model.

The major drawbacks are that the drive belt breaks often (those are now sold in 2 packs for $8.95 US) and that it has to be cleaned with water then left to dry - usually takes 2 days.

Recently, the dustcup trap door broke (due to abuse by this writer) and when I ordered a replacement I was told I needed a whole new dustcup - which when it arrived was for the wrong model ... they might not even stock parts for a 5 year old vacuum. Otherwise, I am very happy with this unit and will probably purchase the new version soon.

BTW - the Infinity I have is turquoise in color and the replacement parts were blue which doesn't matter except the new dustcup won't fit.

by: Anonymous

I have had my Infinity NV29 since May 2009. My roller brush is completely gone - no bristles left and it is not mentioned in the manual. You can not find it any where. And if you call the company, they tried to sell me more than I wanted. Other than that really like the vacuum cleaner.

Good Power/Cheap Plastic
by: Theresa

Good part: We have 4 cats, and my old Hoover was not picking up the hair. So, we bought the Infinity 'cause it said it was perfect for pet owners. It does pick up great! No complaints there. And, I love the attachments.

Bad part: Cheap plastic parts break - handle split where it is screwed in. Button to extend the wand broke off. This is quite an annoyance. Can't even use the great attachments, as I can't extend the wand anymore.

But, cheaper than the $800 Dyson!

Love the suction but breaks easily and no customer service?!
by: Anonymous

I LOVE the way that this vacuum picks up! I live out in the country and constantly have kids and dogs bringing in dirt and grass and this is the best vacuum I have had so far for suction. The prob I have with it is that it breaks easily. I have had it less than a year also and my wand release button has broken and I have had to replace the belt twice! I have lost my warranty book and can not find a number to get a replacement part for the wand. I have looed all over the internet. I am not sure if I would buy this vacuum again for those reasons.

good suction but keeps breaking
by: Dawn L

After having the vaccuum for less than one year, the wand release button broke so I couldn't use the vaccuum correctly. I suffered through for awhile before calling the warranty line. I got a return authorization to send it back. Before I got it boxed up to mail, it broke in another place. Now the unit won't turn on! I'm mailing it back tomorrow, hopefully the postage will be well spent.

My infinity
by: Anonymous

I've had my infinity for less than a year, and I've already had to replace the dust cup, the wand is broken and it does not pick up like it used to when I first bought it. I'm already considering purchasing a different vacuum. For a 5 yr warranty it surely doesnt cover what I thought it would.

Great for a while
by: Anonymous

Loved this vacuum...have 3 cats and two dogs and it was great at picking up all the hair. No loss of suction for a 3 solid years till... Now the little "nipple" that locks the wand in to the holster is broken so I have to tape it to the vacuum or it will come out when vacuuming...very annoying. On infinity website, there was a wand replacement part for this exact model, but when I recieved it, it did not fit my vacuum. And now even in carpet mode, it is failing to pick up like it used to. So I guess it's time to retire this vacuum after only 3 years. If you want the suction to last, maintain and clean this vacuum regularly and treat it with kid gloves. I took an air compressor once every month or so and blew out all the compartments, cyclones etc etc and it was like new. Everything is made in China of very cheap materials these days. All vacuums will break down even the Dysons. I'm on my 4th vacuum in ten years. Another vacuum goes down in defeat to my animals.

Manual?
by: Anonymous

No suction and can't find a manual online - spent several hours searching. I've only used the vacuum 10 times and the suction is completely gone. Took it apart to unclog and a piece fell out - the part that holds the vacuum upright and i can't sort out how to put it back together without a manual. I never got one with my vacuum.

Any ideas on tracking a manual down?

ERUO SHARK INFINITY
by: Anonymous

For those that do not know, the HEPA filter in the Shark Infinity vacuums is fully washable and lifetime used...no need to buy another in other words. People..keep the detailed instruction manual with this vacuum as it is really needed..not the easiest vacuum to maintain to be sure and the dust needs to be removed ( with a chopstick to get it out!) more than it ought to be. I have to empty it three times to do the rug in the living room and I have NO pets...It is a slow job to use this monster and I not only wear earplugs whilst doing it but the messiness of emptying it really makes me wonder why I bought it. However it has super suction when maintained as I do.

where can I buy a new Hepa filter?
by: Anonymous

I bought this vacuum 2 years ago. Its been great, but now my hepa filter is so clogged and dusty and even a air compressor won't get it fully clean. Think of all the germs and gross things are in it! Yuck!! Does anyone know where I can buy a new Hepa Filter? I've search my local Wal-mart where I bought it and, of course, the internet.
Otherwise, Its been a good vacuum.

can I give it less than 1?
by: Anonymous

Horribly designed. The hose clogs at the drop of a hat and good luck cleaning it. The company suggested I mail back the unit and they'll let me know how much it would cost to repair it...MAIL IT BACK, the darn thing weighs a ton! And how would I box it up. Then they told me to use a bent clothes hanger to try and remove the clog, never mind the manual says never, ever do that. Well the hanger trick worked once, but isn't long enough to get at the clog a second time.

Even when it's working, when you empty the cup you expose yourself to a huge cloud of dust and dirt, not to mention cleaning the filter!

The thing of it is, I live alone and only have to vacuum a small area two or three times a month...it's not picking up a ton of stuff and the darn machine still can't handle the load.

Worst money I ever spent on a appliance, bar none! Pity the fool who buys it.

Love this vacuum
by: Anonymous

I read comments about this vacuum before I bought it. I have had it for almost a year and have absolutely no complaints with its operation! I can complain about emptying the canister - the bottom flap doesn't open so easily and recently the little clip that keeps the handle in place broke and the vacuum needs that clip - otherwise the suction is perfect - i've never had to back wash or anything........

You could break a leg using this vacuum!
by: Ann C.

Shortly after I bought this vacuum, I too figured out that to keep the vacuum pressure at its greatest, it had to be clean -- that includes the cyclones and the canister. One thing though, when the vacuum is empty and you are using it with the extension hose (for the steps or draperies) this thing will fall over in a heartbeat. I had gotten more bruises from this thing. My walls are nicked to no end from the vacuum falling over from the suction. The vacuum just sucks so hard, that the thing falls over. It has scraped my brand new stainless steel refrigerator and my washer. You never know when it is going to happen -- but it is always when using the extension pole with the brush on the end or some other piece.

Right now, the extension pole broke where it snaps into place with a little piece of plastic. It works well, but it needs a lot of improvements.
I would rate it 5* for sucking power and 1 for design.

Great vacuum, don't try to vacuum stuff that it is not designed for and it will work great, we have 4 dogs and it picks up everything just fine. We are having problems finding a replacement wheel, all of the brushes have worn off, but we use it 7 days a week.

VERY BAD VACUUM
by: Anonymous

The worst vacuum I've ever spent good money on. Every 10 minutes I have to take the bottom of the machine apart to empty the clogged hose. It has great suction though until that happens. So as long as you're prepared to stop to service 6 times an hour, it may be the machine for you.

So when they say, "It NEVER loses suction" they mean inside of 10 minutes. I guess that's their definition of Infinity.
