Hoover Concept One

by Carolyn
(Holbrook MA )

I can go DK from Texas one better... I purchased a Hoover Concept One vacuum at the Army PX in Karlsruhe, Germany in 1977 when we moved there.

At the time, it was on clearance, and we paid what we felt was still an exhorbitant $99!!! I am still using it today!!! Talk about a workhorse!

It has spent many a year picking up dog and cat fur, beach sand, grass clippings, spilled sugar, crumbs under highchairs, and plenty of other dirt and droppings. It's worked on low and high pile carpets, as well as bare floors in some rooms.

I've had to replace the belts several times over the years and one of the clips that holds the bottom piece on is missing, but it still stays in place just fine.

My Concept One has vacuumed homes around the world during our military life, and several more in the years that followed. Prior to that, all I had was a little Bissell electric broom that we received when we were first married.

This is the only vacuum cleaner I've owned in 34 years of marriage, and I love the fact that it's lasted longer than many of my friends' marriages! Sadly, the day will come when it will have to be replaced and I'm sure I'll be saying, "They just don't make 'em like that anymore."

In 1888 my Dad bought this new vacumn as present for his wife. I thinkd he boutht the slf propelled modeel to someowe make moms life a litttle easier Right off we all loved using it.
When Dad and Mom got ready to move from the farm (1998) I quickly laid claim to the old Hoove and I've been using it with glee each time since then. I currently haveing some problems with the handle.
