Hoover Platinum Series Cyclonic Upright Bagless Vacuum

I purchased a new Hoover Platinum Series Cyclonic upright bagless vacuum early in January of this year. I based my purchase on a few reviews I read on line. The customers who had purchased Hoovers had good things to say about it and they seemed satisfied, for the most part.
I had considered a Dyson because I have three friends with Dysons and they all love them. However, the Dyson I wanted cost nearly twice the price of the Hoover and had many of the same features--the Hepa filter, good warranty, and supposedly more quiet operation with good suction.
My Hoover Platinum vacuum arrived on January 12th. It was used for the first time on the 13th of January--and died the same day. At first we thought it was just the shut off system that protects the motor from overheating.
We had vacuumed less than half the house and emptied the canister twice during the vacuuming process. But when it didn't start after four hours, my husband called Hoover and he was told to return it. in lieu of mailing it back, we opted to take it to a local authorized service center. The guy at the service center said that it was probably something in an electronic board--apparently they have had problems with that particular model. He said it would probably take 5-6 weeks to get it back. I wasn't too happy about that cause now I had no vacuum, but there wasn't much I could do at that time.
It is now 47 days later. We have tried to get information from the service center on two occasions and got no where. The last time, a week ago, they promised to call us back with a phone number to Hoover that we could call to find out what is happening, but no return call was received.
I am not saying that the Hoover did not do a good job of vacuuming while it held it's ability to function. But what good is a vacuum cleaner if it breaks down after the first hour of use? Has anyone else had such a problem? I am sorry now that I didn't stick with my idea of the Dyson, despite the extra cost.
I have e-mailed to the Hoover service center listed on their web site, but no response from them yet either. My next step is to contact the Better Business Bureau to see what, if any, complaints they have for Hoover.
