Hoover Upright Vacuum Cleaners
Review of 3 models for every budget...

Hoover’s latest generation of Hoover upright vacuum cleaners reaffirms the reputation for quality that the brand name engenders.

With a range of models that spans the gamut from inexpensive to full featured, all of the Hoover upright vacuums feature powerful cyclonic action, getting the most dirt out of your carpet in the fastest time possible.

Many of the designs are bagless and all meet HEPA filter requirements for blocking allergens and dust. All of the Hoover models have switched to the vastly superior 12-amp motor, giving excellent suction.

For a purchaser on a budget, the low-end Hoover vacuum is the Elite Rewind Upright Bagless vacuum cleaner with a 24 foot retractable cable on a counterbalanced spool.

The vacuum has a wide head that cleans a 15-inch swath with each pass, allowing you to get the job done faster, while 7 height adjustments let you customize the ergonomics of the machine to your work flow and height.

Slightly more expensive is the Hoover Fusion Cyclonic Upright Vacuum, which uses cyclonic action to guide dust and dirt to a catch cup.

It comes with a 24-foot long cord and has an 8 foot hose extender to reach into the hard to clean areas.

Like all 12-amp vacuum cleaners, it can run a bit noisy. One very nice touch is that there’s a tool kit with attachments, pet hair tools and repair tools built into a snap-down tray on the front of the machine.

This model uses washable filters, though our experience is that washing them and putting them back in tends to be less than optimal compared to replacing them after a while.

Hoover’s Z-series of collapsible uprights use a remarkable folding joint, allowing you to retain the high suction power of the upright vacuum cleaner with the compactness and flexibility of a canister vacuum.

We’d expected these designs to have more mechanical problems than they did, with the folding and possible constrictions of the airway paths, but were pleasantly surprised to find that they were effective and durable.

The Z-series is fairly expensive, however, at roughly 500 dollars per model (check Amazon - they usually have a discount!). It did have an impressive 15” sweep path. Hoover claims that it has self-cleaning HEPA filters.

All of the above Hoover upright vacuum cleaners are made in the USA and appear to be sturdily made. We can recommend any of the three models listed above, depending on what your budget is.

All of them are bagless models, allowing you to avoid the process of trying to find the right bag for your machine (which has never really been a problem with Hoovers.)
