Hoover Windtunnel Supreme

by Mark Ramirez
(Bakersfield, Calif. USA)

I purchased the Hoover Windtunnel Supreme w/dirt sensor vacuum cleaner 2 years ago.

I use the Genuine Hoover Allergen "Y" bag, but I upgrade the final exhaust filter with an Endust electrostatic filter material #WH5810 and I spray this final filter with orange oil; if there is a vacuum that picks up more dirt, I would like to see the results.

I also replace the belt about every 3 months. Hoover Windtunnel is an excellent upright vacuum.

Great tips, Mark! That's a really nice trick to boost the cleaning ability of your vacuum.

Just for a little info: there are a few Hoover Windtunnel Supreme vacuums and their model numbers are U5453-900, U5468-900 and U5467-900.

The consumer reviews on Amazon are somewhat mixed so maybe the users would need to apply your trick to get the maximum power of this vacuum.

Hoover Wind Tunnel, Self Propelled with bag, upright
by: Gail

We purchased the Hoover Wind Tunnel on Sept. 1, 2009 from Costco. I had searched for consumer reviews on all types of vacuum cleaners and the Hoover had gotten very good reviews.

Hoover was also a well respected brand. We went to Costco to see what types of vacuums they had and found the Hoover Wind Tunnel on sale, plus it came with a years worth of bags.

My husband and I are in our late 50's and have had a variety of vacuums over the years, Kirby, Rainbow, Dirt Devil, all which worked very well for years.

This has to be the absolutely worst vacuum I have ever had. I would say that it sucks, but that is the problem - it doesn't!

You can easily vacuum over throw rugs without worrying that it is going to suck-up a corner. It is constantly clogging up, so you have to take the bag off and clean out whatever is stuck in the hose - very frustrating when you are trying to clean.

I should also tell you that we do not have any pets, nor children at home and my husband is generally gone four days a week, so the carpet isn't that bad - we also remove our shoes before coming into the house.

During the vacuum process (and it sure is one) the vacuum looks like it is picking up stuff, but then a few swipes later it is spitting stuff back out on the floor. I have even tried using the hose with an attachment to pick up stuff in corners, that doesn't work real well either - stuff dumps right out of the hose and back onto the floor.

Maybe I was just unlucky and purchased a defective one, but I will NEVER purchase another Hoover. We spent $200.00 for this vacuum. My $59.00 Dirt Devil had more suction. For that matter, my Black and Decker Dust Buster has more suction.

I contacted Costco on April 24, 2010 and thankfully I can return it. Now I am going to find a vacuum that has suction and actually vacuums. Maybe I'll just head to our local Wal-Mart and purchase another Dirt Devil for $59.00 - then I can use what is left from the $200.00 for a new outfit!

Hoover Windtunnel Ultra
by: Carol VanZile

We have used the Hoover Windtunnel Ultra for abut 3 years. Every time your come to the edge of a throw rug you have to be extremely careful not to let the brush pull the corner up or the belt come off. What a terrible design. I just cleaned and it came of 3 times!

Will not buy Hoover again
by: Anonymous

I bought the Hoover Windtunnel Supreme three years ago in December. The first six months it was in the shop four times because the on/off switch needed repairs. Finally the whole handle was replaced. Worked for about six months and then same problem happened over and over again until you had to unplug the vacuum to shut it off (a big pain). Tonight, the switch itself finally died. Will not turn off or on. Called customer service during the first six months to see if there was a recall or recurring complaints about the on/off switch. Long wait on the phone and the rep was not very friendly and not at all helpful - basically no recalls or problems - too bad!!!!!! Will not buy Hoover again because of extremely poor customer service and quality of vacuum.

Satisfied customer
by: Anonymous

I've had a Hoover Windtunnel for perhaps 8 years. It's the best vacuum I've ever owned though I find it a bit time consuming to hook and unhook the long hose for cleaning in crevices, etc. I'll buy another one when this one wears out. I'm a satisfied customer.

piece of junk
by: Anonymous

we also bought a Windtunnel supreme about two years ago which we are now putting in the trash; belt breaks frequently and is very difficult to access; suction is just so-so...we've bought our last Hoover.
