It's the Yellow one that says "Root Cyclone" on it

by Marie Kennedy
(Traverse City MI)

I am very disappointed with Dyson. At first the vacuum worked very well, but as the months past, the vacuum lost suction power.

This year, 2009, the five-year warranty on this vacuum has expired, and so has the suction power on this vacuum (What a coincidence, yeah right!) I have to run the vacuum over a dust-bunny two or three times before the vacuum will pick it up. It's a great disappointment.

I've called Sears was told that their Service and Repair Shop is filled with unwanted Dysons (all of which are being re-condition by Sears for re-sale purposes).

I asked Sears for a refund and was denied. Sears then directed me to the Dyson Company to ask them for a refund, and as of today, the Dyson Company will not answer me.

I cannot express my frustration each time I see the Dyson commercials on television, especially when Mr. Dyson says that his vacuum will never lose suction power! That is not true! He is lying to consumers. They don't even back their product.

I will never again purchase another Dyson product, and have made this clear to both KMart and Sears. I feel that I am entitled to a full refund for this vacuum that HAS LOST 90% OF ITS SUCTION POWER and would enjoy throwing my vacuum through Mr. Dyson's window!

The original purple and the yellow Dyson ball vacuum
by: Lynn

I originally got a purple Dyson because I was tired of always having to repair my own vacuum cleaners. I had gone through several but, except for a used Kirby, I was constantly having to take them apart to clean out clogs or replace broken belts.

Apparently the mess left by two small children and their long-haired Laborador was too much for the various vacuums that I bought. The Kirby handled the dirt and hair, but I could no longer use it after I hurt my back. It was just too heavy. Yet I desperately needed a reliable vacuum to clean my house [it was more than just a taste preference; my son has asthma and needs a clean environment] without ending up in traction.

I got my first Dyson and was astonished. It cleaned up the dirt, the dog-hair, the mess; and it did not jam. It was easy to use. It was light-weight enough for me to do three or four rooms at a time. It actually worked as well as the advertisements said it would. After two years, I did jam the brush once when I accidentally vacuumed up a ball point pen.

I recently bought a second, yellow "ball" Dyson to use in my downstairs. The purple one that is five or six years old is somewhat semi-retired to cleaning the upstairs. The new vacuum is even easier to use than the old one.

I really like having the Dyson vacuums and recommend them to anyone who doesn't want to open a vacuum repair shop.

Whoa..
by: Anonymous

Whoa...if that is what you have to do to keep that vacuum working I would not even consider buying it. I don't have to do that with my cheap vacuum I have had for many years and it still sucks up dirt just fine. I appreciate this site for educating me on dyson. I was considering buying one.

dyson vacuums
by: joe

marie sounds like the typical dyson owner who comes into my vacuum shop. "this dyson has no suction." we ask when they last cleaned the filter and they look like a deer in the headlights. the dyson dc07 and dc14 requires a lot of maintenance to maintain that original cleaning power.
1. clean the two prefilters every 30 days.
2. replace the lifetime hepa filter every 2 years
3. replace the clutch every 2 years
4. replace the lower nozzle hose every 2 years.
5. check the length of the brushes on the brush roll.

I have found that very few read the owners manual. It is so much easier to blame the manufacturer for your lack of maintenance.
If these people don't maintain their appliances I hate to think how they maintain their cars.
