Kirby Tradition

I've had a Kirby Tradition vacuum cleaner (late 70s) in my mom's side of family since 1996. I took it with me when I moved to Colorado.

Back in 1994, my mom was laid off from work and the Kenmore vacuum cleaner we had for the past few years had bailed out on us too may times. We knew a ton of friends / family that are / were in the Kirby cult but my mom couldn't afford a brand new Kirby.

She did manage to get her hands on a Kirby Tradition vacuum in 1995. Although it was in need of repair, we had it rebuilt for about 100 bucks.

The Kirby is still in good shape today, despite a dog destroying the electric cord. I have also tuned it up so it can use hepa filter bags. I got a good feeling it'll last a couple more decades.

I started selling the Tradition many years ago :)

I'm sorry to hear that it maybe getting to heavy to push.

May I suggest that you have your machine serviced? Ie new drive bands and new electric brushes.

Don't let them try and sell you a new machine as the Tradition will still clean better tahn all of them.

I've had my Kirby for 50 years. I've had it refurbished one time in 1982. The motor was fine and I only needed a new bag, cord, brush roller, and belt. The belts are replaced as needed and are very easy to do by following the directions in the instruction book.

I'm very satisfied with my Kirby. It's survived 3 boys growing up, several cats and dogs, and the usual cleaning chores required by any household. My only problem is that as I've gotten older the weight makes it hard for me to maneuver and empty the bag when needed. As long as a person is young and strong they would be wise to own a Kirby for whatever their needs.
