Miele Antares canister vacuum

by Sarah
(Herndon VA, USA)

My Miele Antares canister vacuum worked great for a while, but the filters were not as effective as they should have been, and when the motor started making noise, I took it back to the dealer.

He honored the warranty for the motor, but claimed the cord rewind mechanism was also bad, though it seemed to work fine.

He charged me for a new chord mechanism (115+) and then told me that the original 7-year warranty of the Miele Antares S4210 was voided, and the new part would only have a one-year warranty.

So the vacuum cleaner that I purchased less than 2 years ago, specifically because it had a 7-year warranty has now turned into a vacuum with a warranty lasting only 2 years and 8 months.

Miele Antares

Having owned the Miele Antares vacuum cleaner for several years now, the frustrations experienced initially are still plaguing. Yes, the cord is definitely too short.

Hardwood floors are not a problem, and the machine is nicely maneuverable, picking up what it should. The size, power and attachments are good for special cleaning situations e.g. stairs, upholstery, drapes.

Carpeting is altogether another matter. After spending EVEN MORE money to purchase the separate battery operated head with roller, within several months the battery needed to be changed after 10 minutes of use. Unfortunately it takes approximately 45 minutes to recharge.

This does leave time to manually clean the roller of the animal hair it picks up, though because the diameter of the roller is on the smaller side, a scissor is necessary to cut that which has been caught in the roller in order to remove. And who can clean rooms, hallways and stairs all in 20 minutes?

This, however, is only after the experience of having to PUSH the Miele Antares cleaner, which must be held at a certain angle/height if not to aggravate one's sciatic nerve and cause occasional irritation on the inside of the hand holding the handle. Unfortunately, the superiority of this machine is not appreciated (or noticed) in this moderate household with children, animals, and a user of middle age, with an imperfect lower back on a short but not weak frame.

Sadly, if not for the expense, this machine would have been replaced long ago.
