Miele Red Star

The Miele Red Star vacuum cleaner was great in the beginning but stopped working after a year.

Had to take it in and retailer charged us over $100 to have the electric cord replaced (took a week).

About 6 months later, the entire top panel piece broke off and we refuse to pay another $150 to repair that.

We bought the Red Star from Miele mainly for our allergies but even the special filter bags are not helping.

The suction has also lost a lot of power of the past 18 months.

Not worth the $500+ we spent on it!

Miele Red Star
by: Donna

We bought our Miele Red Star over 10 years ago and have loved it. After years of having to replace parts and have repairs for less expensive machines, we broke down and invested in the Red Star. We only wish we'd done it sooner.

After a couple of years a part broke; I called the dealer who said it was a Miele problem, and they mailed a replacement part free of charge. The bags fill totally full so don't need replacing as often as cheaper machines.

There are no belts to replace as on cheaper machines. It is clean and has great suction. Overall, very worth the money. I'll definitely buy another one.

Miele S314i Red Star
by: George

The Miele S314i Red Star is a terrific vacuum cleaner! I already had a Miele Plus S251i that I was (and still am) extremely impressed with. The Red Star, however, offers a little more vacuum power as well as a HEPA filter option (necessary with a g/f who's allergic to cats) and a blower attachment. Other than those items they are both extremely quiet and very efficient.

The Red Star also lets you store all three attachments inside the storage cover (the Plus has less room inside, not sure why this was necessary).

Both use the same size bags so I can buy a bunch of them on eBay and save. The HEPA filters can also be found there for less than $20, about half what Miele OEM flters cost.

Why did I buy Miele? Well... there they were in the second hand store, and I'd just become aware of Miele's reputation (and prices), so $60 for the Plus and $13 for the Red Star, both in mint shape, seemed like a good deal. The Plus, by the way, came with five boxes of Miele OEM filter bags. Am I a lifelong fan of Miele vacuums? You betcha!
