Oreck Upright

by Joseph

About 10 months ago, I bought an upright vacuum from an Oreck outlet in Delaware (the one in Kirkwood highway, prices corner near WSFS).

Everything was ok until 2 months ago (Feb. 08), the vacuum just stopped working. I brought it to the Oreck outlet store where I bought it and I was told that the motor needs to be replaced (because shredded papers were in the area) and because the papers are in the motor, they would NOT HONOR their warranty.

I was surprised and I even told the lady that their advertisement even showed the vacuum suctioning a bowling ball (and who would intentionally put papers on the motor).

I was told to pay for the new motor and replacing the motor for $95.00. I even called Oreck's rep. @ 1800 289 5888 and I was told that the offer of their outlet was good (HONORING THE WARRANTY I THINK IS BETTER!).

I think that their advertisement is misleading, yes, probably they could suck a bowling ball, but if in case it went inside the vacuum ( which is supposedly what vacuums should do in the first place), then, you're on your own - WARRANTY NOT VALID ANYMORE. How convenient for them, and inconvenient to customers like me.

Moral lesson: Buy the cheapest vacuum with no warranty which you could use at least for 6 months to a year because in the end, they will find a reason not to honor the warranty. And don't even think Oreck is superior ( like honoring warranty) to other vacuum, they just advertise more and COST MORE!

Oreck Upright
by: Virginialadyusa

I paid over $700 for my Oreck upright vacuum cleaner... it is one of the most disappointing purchases I have ever made. Although it comes with a lifetime maintenance warranty each year when I take it in for service I get a hard sell from the service person to upgrade/ buy parts etc.

Recently it quit working and I needed to vacuum asap... I ran into our local supercenter and purchased an upright from Bissell. It was geared towards pets and I have cats. It came with all the attachments and a little beater brush for upholstery. Cheap...less than $70 ...I was dumbfounded by the performance.

The Bissell did such an amazing job... even the air felt cleaner. The Bissell has a see thru cup (nice and large ) for the dirt and I WAS flabbergasted by what it picked up... based on the Bissell performance the Oreck was barely moving dirt around.

My advice to anyone who needs a vacuum is to buy a less expensive one and replace it every couple years is necessary. Technology being what it is you will probably be better off in the long run.

Oreck vacuums
by: Sherry

My mother continues to purchase Orecks and all I have to say is that is the point she CONTINUES to purchase Orecks! She has to buy a new vacuum every year at least.

That should not be the case. I don't know where her obsession with Orecks started my WHOLE life until I was like 25 we had the same Vacuum it was this little old rainbow and it worked well! It worked very well for years. Now my mom buys Orecks and she brings the broken ones to my house for storage I guess I don't know. I however have at least 5 broken Orecks! THEY STINK!!!

I know my review is not as professional as some but it is just the plain ugly truth! Why buy a $200 Vacuum once a year buy a $600 vacuum and have it last 10 years. I would like to tell you that ORECKS SUCK , but that's the point of my review THEY DON'T SUCK!!! They break and they are not dependable! THEY ARE BAD VACUUMS AND the only thing they will SUCK is your money right out the door!!

The bags are difficult to find, the suction is weak at best. There are no contraptions for hard to reach spaces. The vacuum is extremely difficult to manage in and around corners and such. Changing the bags is an extremely messy and disgusting job. I think my mom got suckered because she was offered a free iron or something ridiculously stupid like that.

NO gimmick is worth the purchase of this non-working, insufficient, mal-functioning piece of hardware. I would NEVER purchase an Oreck and I encourage you the vacuum consumer to NOT purchase one either. They are not worth the money. Research BETTER options don't make a mistake! If you are about to purchase an ORECK RUN!!!!!

Unless you need some to feel up your empty storage shed, in which case feel it up with your collection of broken appliances.

"This information is very important to anyone looking to buy an Oreck vacuum cleaner for the long term use." I am suppose to help you with the long term use that's easy there is not a long term use. They don't last for more than a year.

Not that they work well brand new but they certainly do not age well and are not the vacuum of choice for long term usage. THINK AGAIN!
Thanks for letting me vent and good luck on the vacuum buying journey!

What?????
by: Anonymous

I don't understand the lead article in this. How are you going to pick up a bowling ball with an upright? the bowling ball demo relates to the handheld. Also, there is no way paper could get into the "motor" on an upright. there is no way it could get into the motor housing on an upright.I work on all kinds of vacs. It sounds to me that someone picked up paper with the handheld without a bag in it.

orecks (check out all the used ones at the thrift stores)
by: Anonymous

I don't know who is writing all these glowing comments for orecks, but I suppose they might be coming from oreck franchise owners.
I am an independent vacuum dealer that sells both oreck and riccar vacuums. We let the customer try both vacuums on the seven kinds of carpet and hard floor. They choose the riccar time after time. The riccar outcleans and filters better than any oreck for less money.
Check out any consumer reports for the last four years. The oreck with its 4 and 3.5 amp new motor does not keep the rpms of the brush roll
running fast enough for the plush carpet in most american homes. Prove this yourself by holding the vacuum up and lowering until it contacts the carpet and you will see the motor losses about 40% of its suction and brush speed.

i love my Oreck
by: JoAnn

I would have never bought this vacuum but I experience the Oreck at my brother home.

I thought it was too light weight to do a good job. But I discover that not only does it do a great job but I no longer have back and shouldler pain from vacuuming.

I have one for 3 years my brother, sister have used them for 8 years with good proformance.

Love the Oreck that I can go to kitchen ceramic to carpeting and not have to change anything on the vacuum.......love it would but it again and again........But do wish the price would come down.
