Oreck XL U3980H2

I hate my Oreck! I got it because my sister said it was a great vacuum.

I live on a ranch and have 2 dogs, so I have heavy duty cleaning. With hay and dog hair you need something that will pick the dirt up. It is used daily or at least every other day.

I have had it for 4 years and it has not done a good job since I got it. It doesn't pick anything up, just pushes it around.

Have had it worked on several times as it falls apart. The metal strip on the power head on the bottom keeps coming off and the bolts fall out. On top of that you can smell the dirt in the bag and it has a hepa filter!

I wouldn't recommend one of these Oreck XL vacuums to any one. They are noisy and have no attachments and just doesn't do a good job.

On top of that, I have weak arms and I got it thinking that it would be light. It is when there is nothing in the bag. But I have to lift it constantly to put the head over dirt to pick the dirt up and not push it around!

Hated my Oreck - it's gone
by: Ellen

Bought an Oreck for around $350 (someone told me they could get me a "deal" - nit sure if it really was lower priced than retail.)

Hated it. My experience matched another reviewer - it just moved dirt around. Within a year of light use (trust me, I don't vacuum that much) a belt broke. Took it to an Oreck store and it was going to cost something like $75 to fix. I just left it there and said good riddance.

Oreck XL2800H2 W
by: Leah

I only have enjoyed the light weight of my Oreck vacuum.

I have not enjoyed the terrible workmanship. The handle is made of cheap aluminium that broke because it could not sustain the pressure of pushing around the vacuum over carpets and rugs. The casing tore and subtracted from the power. It is supposed to be hypo-allergenic, and the smell it gives out when functioning makes me question this. It is so noisy that I cannot hear the phone ring when the ring is at its loudest.

In one word, a very disappointing experience for such a high price!

I am now looking for a good, light and sustainable vacuum and not outrageously expensive which this Oreck was when purchased in 2000.

I'm surprised you've had such a bad experience

We own an Oreck upright, and it's been great. My wife and I have owned it for about 8 years now, and it's like it's brand new.

It's been through several large dogs (a great Pyrenees, a lab, and a goldendoodle) and a long haired cat.

My guess is that you got a lemon, or you had someone inexperienced work on it.

The best bet is to take it to an Oreck store (hopefully you have one near by). I've tried doing surgery on my Oreck when it would get clogged (which it will with too much pet hair), and screwed the thing up.

took it to the Oreck store, and they fixed it right away.
