Real Life Dyson Bagless Vacuum Experiences

I have a Dyson - works pretty good but the appearance ( that Road Warrior look ) is off-putting and all the bumps, humps, pipes, tubes, and road warrior looking stuff just makes it more difficult to keep up with where all the buttons are that you have to deal with - on/off, remove the hose, extend the tube, remove the tank, open the tank - you just get lost with all the BS.
Furthermore, the way the motor is located you simply cannot get the thing under anything - can't even get to the foot recess on kitchen or bath room cabinets and presumably other built in.
Suction is good and the tankless part makes it possible not to have to pay the rediculous prices for filter bags - one of the built in overhead costs, finding the correct one, and then finding where to buy them and getting the right one - was it a wd7a43 or a wdya34.
I am sorry I got carried away with the hype - I even went to a lecture by Dyson - cool guy, but needs to refine that thing. I really like the refinement of the Electrolux.
But I am beginning to believe that you can do well just getting a cheapo and trash it if it breaks. I have actually picked up a couple of great vacuums at the dump (simply plugged up with cat hair or some such. One for the basement, one for vacuuming the cars.
