Shark Navigator Vacuum

Review Of The Latest Upright From Shark

Shark's Infinity technology gives the Shark Navigator vacuum cleaning power that rivals even the most expensive brands, at a price that nearly anyone can afford.
This attractive looking Shark upright vacuum is lightweight and easy to maneuver, with handy onboard tools and superior suction.

The Shark Navigator cleans well on any surface, and deep cleans carpeted surfaces, even in households with pets.

It is guaranteed not to lose suction, even when it becomes full.

The rubberized wheels glide smoothly over floors, and will not scratch or damage surfaces such as hardwood.

Shark Navigator Review

Shark Navigator HEPA Bagless Upright Vacuum
Shark Navigator
The main features of the Navigator from Shark include:
  • Upright bagless design
  • Lifetime washable HEPA filter
  • Lifetime belt
  • Rubberized easy-glide wheels
  • 12 inch cleaning path
  • Motorized brush roll with shut-off switch
  • 12 inch stretch hose
  • Onboard tools include rotating pet hair brush, crevice tool and dusting brush
  • Ergonomically designed hand grip
  • 30 foot cord
  • 10 amp motor
  • Weight: 15 pounds
  • Price $199
  • Warranty: 5 years
The Shark Navigator uses Shark's Infinity technology to separate dirt via cyclonic action, filtering it through the HEPA filter and trapping fine dust particles that might otherwise be blown back into the air to be breathed by everyone in the household.

With a 12 inch cleaning path, the Navigator is slightly narrower than most other full size upright vacuum cleaners, which requires a higher number of passes when vacuuming.

However, making more passes with a vacuum cleaner that deep cleans the carpet with the first pass requires no more effort than passing over the same area several times with a vacuum cleaner that does not clean as well.

The motorized brush roll has a shut off switch that enables you to shut the brush roll off when you are vacuuming floors, for a seamless transition between carpets and floors.

With its lifetime washable HEPA filter, there are no filters to buy or replace. The Shark Navigator also has a lifetime belt, which means that there are also no belts to replace.

The onboard tools include an extra long 24-inch crevice tool that can reach into even the most awkward of spaces, a dusting brush and Shark's exclusive powered pet hair attachment.

The 12-foot stretchable hose has an impressive reach that allows you to reach high spaces and even ceilings without having to lift the vacuum cleaner up to reach. When combined with the 30-foot power cord, this adds up to plenty of cleaning freedom.

This vacuum cleaner is relatively lightweight, and the ergonomically designed handle makes steering and carrying easy for anyone.

Advantages

The general consensus among consumers is that the Shark Navigator is a great vacuum. They particularly like the powerful suction that deep cleans carpets; even when pet hair is present. They also like the power pet hair attachment that is ideal for cleaning pet hair and debris from stairs and furniture.

People also like the long reach of the flexible hose, which can even reach ceilings in some homes. The best feature of all is the price of $199, which is an outstanding value for a vacuum cleaner that is comparable to other machines that sell for as high as $1000 or more.

Disadvantages

Few complaints were found with this vacuum cleaner; the majority of consumers seem to be quite happy with it.

Issues reported were quite minor, with mention of its narrow head and small dirt cup, although the size of these features did not seem to adversely affect the performance of the vacuum in any way. Having a narrower head does mean more passes when vacuuming a large room, however.

Consumer Reviews

Consumers like:
  • Price is very reasonable
  • Powerful suction, yet it is still relatively quiet
  • Easily moves from carpet to floor without adjustment and cleans both surfaces well
  • Hose has long reach
  • Powered pet hair attachment works extremely well
Consumers don't like:
  • Dust cup is somewhat smaller than other vacuums of this size
  • Head is narrower than some full-size vacuums, which means that it doesn't clean as wide of an area at one time, and you have to make more passes.
  • Bristles of the dust brush attachment are rather short and flimsy

Summary

The Navigator vacuum from Shark is lighter than many full size bagless upright vacuum cleaners, and the rubberized wheels make it remarkably easy to manoeuvre, without the danger of damaging hardwood or linoleum floors.

Many people have compared the Shark to the Dyson, and in many ways the Shark has come out on top, especially when it comes to the price. At just $199, the Shark Navigator is hundreds less than the Dyson or other high-end brands, but it has succeeded in proving itself with consumers.
