Wet Dry Vacuum Cleaners
Shop-Vac And DeWalt Are Your Best Choices

Wet dry vacuum cleaners are no longer for use just in the workshop.

Many households now have them stored in their basements or garages in case they are needed.

In the case of a home improvement project, a wet/dry vacuum cleaner comes in handy for picking up chunks of plaster, nails, pools of water or microscopic dust.

These vacuums are designed with a fat hose, a strong motor and a large tank. Some wet dry models even feature a detachable motor that doubles as a leaf blower!

Wet dry vacuum cleaners range from a small, portable, 1-gallon model to a heavy-duty 20-gallon size. The smaller size is perfect for vacuuming out the car or for cleaning up after a small project. However, the 20-gallon size is a must for anyone getting into a large renovation project.

The wet/dry vacuum cleaner has improved over the years. Once known for the loud piercing noise emitted when in use, the technology has improved to help make the wet/dry vacuums much quieter, but still powerful.

A wet dry vacuum cleaner is simply designed with a hose (that comes standard with several different attachments) which plugs into a large tub canister. The larger the canister, the less often you’ll need to empty it as you go along. The canister is usually on wheels, so it is easily transported.

Recommended Wet/Dry Vacuum Cleaners

The Shop-Vac Hawkeye 5-Gallon 5.5 HP Wet/Dry Vacuum with Wall Mount Bracket is an excellent investment.

This lightweight and portable wet dry vacuum cleaner not only has a powerful motor, but features a 2-stage filtering system with a disposable filter bag and pick-up filter.

Along with your canister, you’ll receive one 12-foot-by 1 1/2-inch hose, two 1 1/2-inch extension wands, a brush and squeegee insert, a crevice tool, a 12-inch floor nozzle and a claw nozzle. The wall mount bracket comes in handy if floor space is an issue. It also boasts an 18-foot power cord.

The one feature that this model doesn’t have is a set of wheels. It can be dragged along the floor, but if you are planning on taking it over a floor surface other than concrete, this might be an issue.

The tools are supposed to fit onto a tool caddy connected to the canister, but the manual doesn’t say anything about how to assemble it. The hose can easily be wrapped around the canister. This wet dry vacuum cleaner is a great purchase despite no wheels and a bit of a tool storage issue.

The DeWalt DC500 2 Gallon Wet/Dry vacuum weighs in at a lightweight 10.5 pounds. It is powered by a 12- to 18-volt battery, which means it can be used whether or not the power is working.

It has a cord, so you also have the option of plugging it in when needed. There is storage included right on the canister for the cord.

The battery and the charger for it are sold as separate items, so keep that in mind if you are considering this purchase.

This model features a 5-foot, flexible hose which securely locks in the vacuum. and all of the cleaning tools fit on board the canister. This wet dry vacuum cleaner boasts a high efficiency filter which captures 99.7% of the dust in the air and it only needs rinsed to be cleaned.

The tank includes a drain port for emptying liquids. One problem with this model is that since the suction is powerful for the size of the canister, the battery life is pretty short. It’s a good thing this model is equipped with a cord.

Overall, for the size of the vacuum and the HP, it is a great vacuum to have around the house or workshop.

The Shop-Vac 18-Gallon 6.5 HP Industrial Wet/Dry vacuum features a quiet motor, a lock-on hose system, tank drain, and tool basket.

This model includes a 6-foot locking hose, crevice and gulper tools, extension wands, and a 14-inch floor nozzle with squeegee insert.

This wet dry vacuum cleaner boasts a two-stage filtering system that contains a high-quality cartridge filter and a fine dust collection bag. A one-year warranty comes standard with this industrial vacuum cleaner.

Made from plastic, this Shop-Vac model could have been sturdier. The rear wheel assembly is a big improvement over the caster wheels. The hose is a bit short, but overall, the suction on this model is fantastic and great for both small and large jobs.
