Which uprights are the quietest?

by Michelle
(St. Louis, MO)

I need a new upright vacuum cleaner and I'm looking for one that's quite a bit quieter than the Eureka Boss I inherited.

Is there a ranking based on noise as well as other characteristics? Thanks

Quietest Upright Vacuum Cleaners
by: Chris from GoVacuum

When it comes to building quiet vacuum cleaners, one country specifically has mastered this trait on all of their vacuum cleaners, Germany.

Just as Germany makes their vacuum cleaners quiet, another country's vacuum cleaners are notoriously loud, and almost require the operator to wear ear plugs while vacuuming, China.

The quietest uprights on the market today are the Miele S7 Galaxy Series Uprights. Ranging in price from $549 up to $849, the Miele S7 series all have the same motors and are the same in terms of noise levels. Our best selling Miele S7 upright is the Miele S7210. This model will clean just as well as the top-of-the-line models, it just does not have all the bells and whistles that the upper models have (sorry, no headlight for doing some romantic vacuuming).

Another less expensive upright vacuum that is quieter then most is the Smart Choice CPU-1T Upright Vacuum Cleaner. With a quality metal motor that is made in the United States, these machines offer quiet operation, and extremely long life. If you can get over the bright yellow color, this would be a great choice for you as well.

When looking at vacuum cleaners, the decibel rating is the rating that manufacturers give their vacuum cleaners that alerts you to how loud the vacuum cleaner is. The problem is that unless the vacuum cleaner is extremely quiet, most manufacturers do not publish the decibel rating (shown as dB) of their vacuum cleaners. Especially for the louder vacuums, manufacturers are not enthusiastic about divulging the fact that their vacuum screams like a Banshee while being used.

There are a few things that you can look at that will help you determine how quiet the vacuum cleaner is. In general, a clean air bypass motor is substantially quieter then direct air motors are. Also a phone call to the manufacturer of the vacuum can help determine the decibel rating.

With all vacuum cleaner sales bought from GoVacuum, you'll receive a 60 day full money back guarantee so you may try the vacuum in your home to test how quiet it is, and if you're not 100% completely satisfied with your purchase you may return it to GoVacuum within 60 days for a full refund, and we'll even pay for the return shipping charges.
