XL 21 series

I hate this vacuum!!! I purchased the Oreck Xl 21 because of the Hepa/Celoc filtration. I paid approx. $ 725.00.

After one month of using it the lock just below the carry handle comes loose and blows dirt out of the handle. I took the vacuum back to the Oreck dealer...thinking the lock was faulty.

I was told it was not faulty and if it comes loose...I just have to tighten it!!! Well for $725.00 I should not have to tighten anything!!!

Which I currently spend my life doing with this machine. Then I noticed after approx. 6mo. it didn't have suction on the edge cleaning. I took the vacuum back in for servicing.

I still have no edge cleaning suction!!! In my opinion... this vacuum and the Oreck dealers are a JOKE! After owning this 11 mos. I am fed up with tightening the handle and looking for a new vacuum!!!

I hate my Oreck too
by: Anonymous

I have an XL2 40th Anniv. and it is not worth the $600 I paid for it. I am 5'tall and weigh 108. Twice the handle has broken; first time I had to pay Oreck to fix it, next time I got my handy man to do it.
The metal plates on the bottom constantly fall off and the pins fall out. Had them fix that a # of times; and of course, they want to sell me a whole new bottom section for big $$$$.
I agree too, that the bags are not good at keeping the house smell nice. I vacuum everyday as I have allergies and 2 dogs. My husband always complains "it stinks" after I vac.
I would never ,ever buy another one!!!!!!!!!

Smelly? your nuts

Smelly? it sounds like you should clean your house more. Especially if you are using the charcoal bags.

I have the same problem

If the lock nut keep on coming loose, it is because you did not tighten the nut beyond one of the 3 notch.

My vacuum nut was coming loose and it was leaking dusts all over the place. I live with it for over a year before I notice it. Then I notice the nuts was loose and that there was some notch on the two nuts. I turn the nuts with 1 notch pass the the 3rd notch on the nuts with 3 notches. But I think if you turn it pass the first notch, that should still keep the nuts from coming loose.

In addition if you don't replace the belt every 6 months as recommended, then the belt would have been worn out & loose and the brush roller is turning slower that it should. Oreck said that the vacuum have the suction speed of a Hurricane. But if the belt is not functioning properly due to wear, then it is probably having a suction speed of a summer breeze.

ORECK RESPONSE
by: MTH

For $20,000.00 I bought a new truck. I have to tighten the lug nuts when I rotate my tires and or check them every 3000 miles to make sure they're tight. Where is this attitude coming from? Just because you spent $700 for a vacuum doesn't mean it won't need repaired or maintained. That's why you have a 21 year warranty. Wish I had a 21 year warranty on my new truck. I wouldn't be complaining, but would rather be grateful that it can get repaired for free - for 21 years. Get a new connector piece for that vacuum and a new upper handle. Make sure you have an "O" ring under that locking collar. Problem solved. Oreck is a good product and has been around for 45 years making millions happy- including my own dear mother.

Smelly Oreck

I agree totally. Unfortunately, I purchased my XL21 HepaLoc in '05 and have put up with this problem for 3 years now. Every time I vacuum I have to spray my entire house with air freshener just to remove the dust smell. I have had all the yearly maintenance performed on my Oreck and each time gotten the same speach about a loose something I need to tighten. I agree that for the $700.00 I paid in '05 I shouldn't have to tighten anything. Oh, and don't be talked into the new and improved charcoal bags. They have given me those twice to try and convince me they will make a difference but they don't.
I am on my way to Target this morning to buy a Eureka Boss which seems to get a great rating and great reviews. I'd rather pay $150.00 and replace it every 2 or 3 years than have 21 years of service on the Oreck dust blower. Squirt
